BLUF: ECC delivers exposure to CLO equity tranches with historically high cash yields — but the Q4 2025 results make the structural picture clear. NAV fell 18.6% in a single quarter to $5.70, leverage hit 48% against a stated target of 27.5–37.5%, and the monthly common distribution was cut 57% from $0.14 to $0.06. The yield is visible. The tranche structure is the signal.

The Stability Case

Eagle Point Credit is not a bond fund. It is not a REIT. It is a closed-end fund that invests primarily in the equity tranches of collateralized loan obligations — the last-loss, first-to-absorb-pain layer of a structured credit vehicle backed by leveraged loans.

That structural position is also the source of the yield. CLO equity captures the residual cash flow after all senior tranches are paid. When loans perform, the equity tranche receives an amplified return. ECC’s weighted average effective yield on new CLO equity investments in Q1 2025 was 18.9% at the time of investment. That number reflects the structure — not just the credit.

Management has been actively managing the portfolio. In 2025, the company completed 34 resets and 27 refinancings across its CLO positions, reducing weighted average CLO debt costs by approximately 42 basis points. The weighted average remaining reinvestment period held at 3.3 years — meaningful runway for CLO managers to redeploy capital. All company-level financing is fixed-rate with no maturities prior to April 2028, which removes near-term refinancing pressure from the capital structure.
