Shares of Midstates Petroleum Company Inc MPO more than doubled in price over Friday trading, after its Executive Vice President and COO, Mark E. Eck, spoke at EnerCom’s Oil & Gas Conference. After the bell rang, the rally continued, and the stock is up an extra 7.4 percent in after-hours trading. This makes it the biggest gainer of the afternoon.

On the other hand, there’s Veeva Systems Inc VEEV the biggest loser in after-hours trading, down more than 8.5 percent. The decline does not seem to have been triggered by any particular event or piece of news, but rather looks like a correction of the 9.44 percent surge the stock experienced over the regular trading session.

Also falling is small-cap independent oil and gas partnership BreitBurn Energy Partners L.P. BBEPP, which fell more than 8 percent since the market closed, losing the ground gained during the day. The stock had opened at $13.92, and closed up 6.35 percent, at $14.57. However, it is now trading, in after-hours, around $13.40.

The Credit Suisse AG - VelocityShares Daily Inverse VIX Short Term ETN XIV, for its part, is the largest gainer in the Nasdaq exchange in after-hours. The ETN, which replicates the inverse of the daily performance of the S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures index, fell 4.86 percent during the day, but is up almost 2.4 percent in after-hours trading, recuperating some of the lost ground as volatility declines.

Finally, there’s VMware, Inc. VMW, which lost more than 8 percent over the past five days, and 2.37 percent in Friday trading. However, it is up more than 2.4 percent in after-hours, apparently starting to recuperate from a tough week.
