After-Hours Moves Led By Orexigen Therapeutics, EMC, Clean Energy Fuels And Cadiz

Orexigen Therapeutics, Inc. OREX was the biggest gainer in Friday’s after-hours session. The stock, which surged 6.3 percent over the day on news of The Baupost Group having reported a 17.17 percent stake in the small-cap biopharmaceutical company, continued to rise after the bell, up more than 12 percent.

Another winner in after-hours trading is Clean Energy Fuels Corp CLNE, up more than 6 percent, recuperating some of the ground lost (about 9 percent) during the day.

EMC Corporation EMC was up more than 4 percent after the market closed. Shares were on the rise on the back of the news about Dell having offered the company roughly $33 per share to acquire it, “including the value of a tracking stock in VMware Inc. that would be issued to EMC shareholders,” Bloomberg reported.

Vedanta Ltd (ADR) VEDL, a mid-cap India-based global diversified natural resources company saw its stock decline more than 10 percent after the bell, losing much of the ground gained over the regular session.

The biggest loser of the afternoon in the Nasdaq exchange was Cadiz Inc CDZI, down almost 7 percent after losing 16.16 percent during the day. The decline was triggered by the release of a statement in which the company responded to media reports after BLM's guidance. According to the press release, the company believes “the findings issued by the California State Director of the BLM, who retired the day the letter was sent, are contrary to federal law and policy and should be rescinded.”
