HSN CEO: A Lot Of Our Growth Was Fueled By Digital

HSN, Inc. HSNI came out with its fourth-quarter earnings on Thursday. The company posted revenue of $1.117 billion and an EPS of $1.28 for the quarter, compared to revenue of $1.019 billion and EPS of $1.11 for the same period last year.

Mindy Grossman, CEO at HSN, was on CNBC to weigh in on the numbers.

Growth Drivers

"Well actually in our business a lot of that growth was fueled by digital. So, HSN specifically had 14 percent sales growth in the quarter, highest quarter certainly since I joined the company, but 22 percent digital growth and 46 percent mobile growth."

"So, it really is about engaging consumers across every one of our platforms and that growth came from the health and growth of our customer base our customer files are at an all-time high, optimizing our digital platforms and then really using our content to create unique experiences."

Free Shipping Wars

When asked about how the recent move by e-commerce players and other retailers to decrease the threshold of free shipping is affecting her business, Grossman replied, "We are constantly looking at the landscape of shipping and we look at our competition very broadly and we look at every single product and what is really going to drive impulse."

She continued,"One of the things that is really different for us is over 70 percent of all the products we sell are exclusive to us. You can't get them anywhere else and in some of our catalogue e-commerce businesses that's even higher."

" So, the real key is how do you have great product, how does the customer conceive of it as value and yes in certain cases free shipping and handling in the electronic business or in some cases the beauty business is pay to play."
