Exxon Mobil Corporation XOM shares are trading higher by $1.22 at $81.30 in Monday's session. With the S&P 500 index lower by 2.5 percent and Crude Oil lower by 3.5 percent, the issue is posting a nearly 1.7 percent gain heading into the final hour of the day.

After a lower open, it found support ahead of Friday's low ($78.57), only reaching $78.81 before staging its rebound. The ensuing rally has taken the issue through the pair of highs at the $80 level from last Thursday and Friday.

So far, it has reached $81.61 and it is not far off that level. The current high coincides with its December 2 high, when it peaked at $81.64.

Despite the continued decline in the Crude Oil market, the issue is by far outperforming the index with nearly a 4 percent gain versus the index's decline of over 11 percent.
