Benzinga reviewed the Twitter accounts of several corporate America leaders to gauge their “twitterbility.” Our conclusion: Definitely follow General Motors Company GM CEO Mary Barra.

Barra, the first female CEO to lead any of the Big 3, her Twitter account captures GM’s innovative and collaborative spirit. Barra is quite active on the social platform and her messaging mirrors her progressive leadership style.

Barra is not shy to thank her team and partners with tweets like:

  • Safety, Diversity, Drive. These are just a few things that I believe make #WhereIWork great.
  • Congratulations to @OSUEcoCar! All the teams did an excellent job this year!
  • Congratulations to @safekids. We look forward to continuing the partnership.

She is also not one to fail to acknowledge when someone reaches out to her via Twitter and, when appropriate, is able to simultaneously use her response to motivate. Such replies include:

  • @UWAFT You’re very welcome! Glad #PiDay was a success.
  • Great to hear! This is an exciting time to work at GM.
  • @MacEngEcoCAR3 You’re welcome! Hope you enjoyed spring break, and that you’re recharged & ready to focus.
  • I had a chance to read your tweets from this week's @EconClubChi dinner. Thank you for the warm welcome to the Windy City!

Barra breaks down newsworthy and noteworthy occurrences for the consumer, including addressing the 2014 ignition switch recall – an issue that she inherited at the very start of her term as CEO. Her transparency shines through with tweets like:

  • True progress is made when you combine connectivity and electrification with mass market scale. Time to address #CES2016.
  • We’re taking lessons learned from the ignition switch recall and driving real change across @GM.
  • At 9am EDT, I'm discussing the Valukas findings on the ignition switch recall with @GM employees. Watch live here: http://s.gm.com/82J
  • Good discussion w/ @HouseCommerce today; I won't rest until these problems are resolved. I believe in @GM and our employees. #GMrecall
  • The issues raised in the hearings were tough, but fair. We'll continue doing all we can to repair our customers' vehicles and rebuild trust.
  • Our culture is simple: Our customers and their safety come first. http://fastlane.gm.com/2014/04/14/gm-...

And she is not shy to utilize Twitter to provide followers with a glimpse into her personal life. She broadcasts her experiences, good and bad, with the following posts:

  • In school, Mr. Palmer helped me embrace my love of math. But #62milliongirls don’t have that opportunity.
  • Congratulations to my fellow Corsairs at @WaterfordMott who are graduating today! Remember to work hard and follow your passion.
  • Sending my thoughts and prayers to @sherylsandberg and all of the family, friends and colleagues of David Goldberg. So sorry for your loss.
  • To the best dad ever, who encouraged me to pursue my love of math. Miss you, Dad.
  • Wise words from my mom: There’s no substitute for hard work. Mom, I miss you every day. Happy #MothersDay!

Barra’s integration of these type of messages with video and photographic variety is what makes her twitterbility so #supergreat. Follow her at @mtbarra.
